Rita Campos

Rita Campos is a researcher in Science Communication and Non-formal Science Education at Centro de Estudos Sociais (CES), University of Coimbra, where she co-coordinates the outreach programme 'Ciência Viva no CES', targeting basic and high-school schools, and the Cycle of Methodologies (interdisciplinary workshops and discussion forums) ‘Roda de Saberes’. With a PhD in Biology (University of Porto, 2007), she has been working in science education and science communication since 2008. She is interested in interdisciplinary approaches and methodologies that enhance the inclusion and participation of the wider public in science and knowledge production, such as context-based education or the visual methodologies, and in mixed methods of evaluation of educational and communication tools. Her current research interests include the study of the best conditions for public engagement in and with science and particularly the use of citizen science in education. She is the co-founder of the group Pedagogical Action-Reflexion Lab, aiming at discussion education and gathering students, teachers, professors and researchers from Portuguese and Brazilian universities and institutions, and member of the Portuguese Network of Citizen Science.
